Reddit Minimal, ver. 1.3.1ChromeSafari

The RedditMinimal extension cleans up the messy display on Reddit.com, giving it a more modern, minimal look and feel.

Change History

Ver. 1.3.1Apparently there are multiple ways to do spoilers on Reddit. I have updated the extension to work correctly with the methods that I know about. If you find anywhere that the spoilers are still showing, please leave a comment or email me. (February 10th, 2012)
Ver. 1.3SPOILER text is now hidden unless hovered, like it should be. reddit.com/r/commandline now looks like the rest of the pages (fixed the black text on black background problem). And as per your requests, I have omitted reddit.com/r/apple from being styled by this extension. (February 10th, 2012)
Ver. 1.2Version 1.2 adds addresses two of the biggest requests for Reddit Minimal. Namely, title links are now a darker gray, while a:visited links are a light gray; search functionality is back. (February 25th, 2011)
Ver. 1.1In version 1.0, the top bar was hidden when frames were enabled. The top bar is now displayed properly. (October 13th, 2010)

Googled for this earlier and couldn't find it at all… perhaps it hasn't been indexed yet, but I'mma put some keywords here in the hope it'll pick them up… Redditminimal reddit minimal safari extension. Also, cheers for the extensions, they're great. :)

Ha ha, thanks for the keywords. I just added this extension today though, so that's probably why it hasn't been indexed yet.

Great again! Thanks for all of this man! I love all your extensions. Btw, what was up with the Macrumors update? I didn't note anything different. What are you working on next, because I like your style! (think big! like Google or Youtube big. Or Twitter or Facebook (which I don't use, but other users should be happy too :P )

Oh, and you'd better trademark the 'Minimal' :)

Once again you take one of my favourite websites and make it 400x better. Absolutely love this! Keep it up. :D

@Myst and Julian - Thanks! I'm glad you like it. Julian, the update for MacRumors Minimal was actually a mistake on my part. I was trying to update RedditMinimal and I accidentally updated the wrong item on my update manifest!

Now that the built in Reddit search doesn't suck, any way you could add it back into the extension? Its pretty much a deal breaker for me....

Needs the hide button, otherwise brilliant. I may just hack it in for myself.

Only improvement I can suggest is that viewed pages need to be indicated.

Hey, this is amazing, thanks! You might want to have Apple take a look at your extension in the extensions page, as I couldn't install it from their Extensions page. When I clicked the install button, it tried to install both this and the MacRumors Minimal plugin at the same time, resulting in failure. Glad you had it available on this page :)

My only problem with this is, it is hard to distinguish which links have been visited. Otherwise I like it!

I like it a lot, I miss the frontpage button though, just a + or - would be perfect for 1.2 ;)

I agree with everyone who says there needs to be a way to distinguish between links that have and have not been visited. Without that this is useless.

The submitter's username link in the comments appears to have a blue background which helps it distinguish it from the rest of the comments BUT the text foreground color is blue too so I can't read the username of the submitter.

My favorite Safari extension, no doubt. Like everyone else though, I really think there really needs to be a different color for visited links. Not to step on your design toes here as I think you did a great job, but the standard gray color for the headlines really falls into the background and appears less important than the utility data beneath it. I might suggest using the gray as the visited color and making the headlines darker by default. I trust you to come up with a solution. Just my two cents.

Love your extension. Unfortunately I use it along with the Reddit Enhancement Suite and the latest update (3.2) moves some things around and some of the headings are no longer visible. Is there any possible way you could make a workaround. Very much appreciated and thank you again for your extension.

One other reddit area that has problems is http://www.reddit.com/r/commandline/ - the text is black on a black background.

I just updated. Unfortunately now the "expand window for video" is no longer a Play Arrow with + sign next to it. Now it's just an empty square. I'd love a fix... http://www.reddit.com/r/videos/

Great extension. As a suggestion, I use a lot the Ctrl + Option + Cmd + 8 for when I'm browsing reddit at night. Why don't you make a "night" version of this plug in? That would be amazing! Thanks again.

For some reason the CSS doesn’t seem to be getting applied to some subreddits such as r/apple etc. Also having the same expand button issues as Josh. Any chance of fixes coming down the line?

@Josh and @Zach, I'll push out an update pretty soon for the expand button. @Zach, the problem with subreddits is they allow user-styles that are different from the rest of the site, and I just can't possibly add rules for every single custom subreddit. I wish I could, but it's just too much. In regards to r/apple, I got a lot of requests to just have this extension bypass that page altogether on account of the styles are so drastically different.

Love this extension, but it's not RES (Reddit Ehnancement Suite) compatible. I'd love for it to be, and just ignore all subreddit styles.

Holy moley! Mix this with RES and it's like a completely different website! The only thing is, there are a few weird things that kinda chill in the middle of the page (only when combined with RES). If I could ask for one feature from any reddit extension, it would be to automatically hide read posts. I love the add-on, and I wish all the devs the best luck in the future development of this fantastic extension.

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work with multiple subreddits combined (e.g. reddit.com/r/apple+osx). Thanks for your work so far though :)

Well, apparently it doesn't work just with /r/apple (as I now realised it's been pointed out in the change log). So if I have a multi subreddit view that starts with /r/apple then nothing will be styled. Easy to work around this though :)

Love the plugin, lately I've been experiencing tremendous load when visiting reddit with the extension enabled. com.appl.Webprocess skyrockets well past 100% site and safari screech to a halt. Newer system plenty of ram and fully updated. Hope to get this addressed. Thanks, -E
